Who are you, what do you do, and where are you from?
My name is Laura Bibbs and I am a freelance musician, trumpet player, singer and composer.
What does sustainability mean to you?
Sustainability for me, is about making conscious decisions. Conscious decision making can be as simple as carrying a water bottle instead of purchasing bottled water, or using metal and glass straws in place of plastic straws.
How do you incorporate sustainability into daily life as an artist?
I try to live a sustainable life by minimizing the waste I produce within my household, I accomplish this through means of recycling and composting. Over the past few years I’ve transitioned from being an unaware consumer, to someone who researches brands and products before purchasing them. As an artist,I’ve recently begun working on a music video that emphasizes the destruction of nature caused by plastic and other non-biodegradable materials. This has been a creative outlet as well as an opportunity for me to shed light on the unfortunate damage that is happening across our planet.
What impact can artists have on sustainability?
As artists and musicians, we have the opportunity to captivate audiences with our work. With the accessibility of the internet, there is a virtual platform to musically and visually speak to audiences about topics such as global warming and sustainability. I believe it is the obligation of artists to engage with topics such as these to influence future generations.
